GAME 12
10/27/2017 @Niskayuna: Niskayuna 1 - Guilderland 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Final game of the season. Felt like a similar story-line. We were out-classed by Niskayuna but the boys hustled and kept themselves in the game. We created a few opportunities but failed to capitalize. Quinn Tynan had a spell at forward and seemed to create a spark that we have been missing. During that stretch, we were able to keep the ball in the offensive end and put some pressure on Nisky. With all of Nisky,s class, Jake Anderson, Noah Manzella, Shoun Joseph, Justin Petti, and Pete Schulz did a good job of limiting their opportunities. Niskayuna scored the lone goal on a broken play that took an unfortunate bounce.
We finish the season 1W-9L-2T. We gave up 18 goals and scored 5. Leading goal scorers were, in a 3-way tie- Shoun Francis, Quinn Tynan and Kyle Wesselhoeft, each with one-a -piece (two own goals by the opponents). Six or our nine losses were by 1 goal which shows the boys competed and were in almost every game. Good luck to all the boys moving forward.

GAME 11
10/25/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 0 - Colonie 1
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Final home game of the season. It was a well plyed game. The boys played hard and it was a back and forth game. Scoring goals continues to be a challenge. Charles Joseph created several opportunities that we just couldn't finish. Jake Anderson continues to be a stable presence in the back line, and Flynn McCallum and Adrain Torres both did a good job in the nets. Danny Knapp had a good game and has shown steady improvement through the season. This match went to overtime and unfortunately Colonie found a goal and came out on top.

GAME 10
10/20/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 0 - Bethlehem 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Some of the best soccer of the season. Still suffering from a goal drought. Jonathan VanWormer had our best opportunity with a great strike turned away by the post in the first quarter. Defense held their shape well! Justin Petti, Noah Manzella, Pete Schultz, and Shoun Francis all did well at stepping up winning balls. Jake Anderson had another strong game anchoring the back. Flynn McCallum recorded the clean sheet. Quinn Tynan, Robert Zieba, and Jonathan VanWormer combined well through the midfield. The game finished a 0-0 tie but the boys continue to show improvement.

GAME 9
10/18/2017 @ Shaker: Shaker 1 - Guilderland 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

The boys visited Shaker today and had a good game. Kyle Wesselhoeft moved into the central midfield and did a good job with Jeff Burleigh holding down the middle. The defense seemed to grasp playing with a sweeper today. Noah Manzella and Peter Schultz both put in good shifts as stopper and Jake Anderson did a fine job winning balls and keeping everyone organized. Adrian Torres made several great saves and even got some help from the post today! Charles Joseph showed his pace and made several exciting runs at the defense creating some good chances. The Dutchmen came out on the losing end but show a huge improvement over the last few outings.

GAME 8
10/16/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 2 - Bethlehem 4
Goals: Tynan (1), OG (1)
Assists: Brula (1)

Well, this game was rescheduled due to excessive heat and today the boys had to cover up on the bench with blankets! Careful what you wish for. Disappointing game today. We continue to show a lack organization and teamwork. Bethlehem played direct and scored all four goals on breakaways. We got on the score board with an own goal. The second goal was our highlight of the game. Quinn Tynan volleyed a cross into the far post showing excellent skill and composure. Incidentally, through eight games of the season this was only the second goal we've scored in the run of play.

GAME 7
10/13/2017 @Shen: Shen 4 - Guilderland 0
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Traveled to Shen on a beautiful Fall day. Played on a full size field and Shen took advantage of the width. Shen scored four goals in the opening quarter and cruised to an easy win. We were out-classed today but hopefully the boys take the experience and learn from it.

GAME 6
10/11/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 0 - Saratoga 2
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Tough game at home. Saratoga controlled most of the play. The boys played hard but were unable to generate much offense. Difficulty finding goals is becoming a reoccurring theme this season. Charles Joseph continues to show his burst of speed and gets behind the defense. We are just unable to convert those opportunities to goals.

GAME 5
10/06/2017 @Ballston Spa: Ballston Spa 0 - Guilderland 1
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

The Dutchmen traveled to Ballston Spa today and came home with the "W"! It was a back and forth match with our boys spending a lot of time in the offensive third. We finally broke the deadlock in the 4th quarter. Jake Anderson took a direct kick and found Quinn Tynan wide. Quinn played it in to the middle which resulted in an own-goal. Seem to be a quite few people nursing injuries. Hopefully, a few days off will do some good. Next game is Wednesday at home vs. Saratoga.

GAME 4
10/04/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 1 - Niskayuna 2
Goals: Wesselhoeft (1)
Assists: 0

Niskayuna came to town with an undefeated record and had not been scored on. They pinned us into our defensive end and scored early on a corner kick. It looked like the start of a long day. However, the boys responded well and continued to work hard. Adrian Torres and Flynn McCallum both continued to play well and came up with big saves. Third quarter, Nisky added another goal directly off a corner kick, off the back post. Down 2-0 the boys didn't give up and continued to work. Kobe Frimpong earned a penalty kick and Kyle Wesselhoeft stepped up to hammer it home. At 2-1 we continued to work hard and created chances. Everyone should be proud of their effort. We are on the road to Ballston Spa on Friday.

GAME 3
10/02/2017 @Colonie: Colonie 1 - Guilderland 1
Goals: Francis (1)
Assists: Schultz (1)

Beautiful Fall day in Colonie. Team came out a little slow today. Colonie opened the scoring in thesecond quarter. They picked the ball up in midfield and we failed to stop the ball. We recovered well but cleared the ball in the middle giving Colonie the advantage for an easy goal. Flynn McCallum and Adrian Torres both cameup with some big saves today. Kobe Frimpong is growing into the game and had several strong runs on the ball. The third quarter, our boys came out and pressed. Robert Zieba, Quinn Tynan, and Kobe Frimpong all seemed to find space down the left hand side. Pete Schultz delivered the assist to Shoun Francis at the top of the 18 yard box for the tying goal. The fourth quarter and overtime was a back and forth affair. Both sides created chances but were unable to capitalize. We are home to Niskayuna on Wednesday.

GAME 2
09/27/2017 @ GHS: Guilderland 0 - Albany 1
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Another hot Fall day! The boys came out of the gate fast. First quarter showed some promise. We pressed and controlled most of the play. Shoun Francis had the best chance when he volleyed a corner kick off the crossbar at the end of the quarter. Second quarter, the Dutchmen lost their shape and Albany had the run of play. They had one serious opportunity but Flynn McCallum came out and forced the shot wide. Third period was wide open. Adrian Torres made several good saves. Albany finally found the back of the net after we failed to clear the ball. The long range shot found the upper corner giving Albany the lead. Fatigue appeared to be setting in. Fourth quarter was end to end! Quinn Tynan and Charles Joseph combined on several strong runs into the box but came up empty. We showed good effort and worked the entire game. As we have seen so far this season, goals are tough to come by.

GAME 1

09/18/2017 @GHS: Guilderland 0 - Shaker 1
Goals: 0
Assists: 0

Kicking off the 2017 season at home on a hot September day. We came out strong in the first quarter. The boys pressed, won balls and created chances. Robert Zieba was strong down the left side and played several balls across the six yard box that we just couldn't get on to. Shaker had a few long distance opportunities but Adrian Torres handled them with ease. The second quarter belonged to Shaker. They pressed and kept us in our defensive half. They capitalized on a defensive error and scored the lone goal from the right-hand side. The second half advantage went to Shaker. We were able to hold them scoreless thanks to several big saves by Flynn McCallum. Overall a good first outing. Need to learn replicate the team defense of the first quarter and finish our chances.

Preseason Scrimmage

09/15/2017 @Shen

GHS 1 - Colonie 0
Robert Zieba scored the lone goal from a well placed shot just inside the 18yd box

Shen 0 - GHS 0
GHS 0 - Colonie 0

Shen 1 - GHS 0
Fitness showed in the final quarter. Shen scored a nice goal. Highlight of the quarter was Flynn McCallum saving a PK.

Overall, all the boys did a nice job. Coach was able to play a lot of different combinations. When we kept our shape, we were strong. It was a hot day and our conditioning showed. There were a lot of hands on the knees towards the end! The games highlighted several areas for improvement. Should be a fun season watching this young team grow.
