11/01/2016 @CBA: CBA 1 - Guilderland 3
Goals: Tynan (1), Cusack (1), Davidson (1)
Assist: Cusack (1)

It took a while to get this game in, but it finally happened. It was a great November day for soccer. The boys did an excellent job sharing the ball today and making the extra pass. Quinn Tynan opened the scoring. Quinn chased the ball to the corner, turned back like he was making a back pass and quickly turned is defender and went to goal. Great change of pace and nice goal! Riley Cusack converted a PK from a handball for goal number two! Riley also contributed to the third goal earning the assist and Robert Davidson netted the third goal. Samuel Matkin and Cameron Frey held down the goal for the win. The boys finished with 4 wins and 8 losses. Overall they showed improvement and had a great time. Thanks to Coach Banovic for all his time and effort and making the season fun for the kids.

GAME 12
10/28/2016 @Shaker: Shaker 6 - Guilderland 2
Goals: Karaca (1), Tynan (1)
Assist: Karaca (1)

The Dutchmen traveled to Shaker on this cool afternoon. Shaker is working on an undefeated season. It was always going to be an uphill battle for the boys. The officials didn't help the cause! Shaker was awarded a PK that was a questionable foul and at worst a direct outside the box. The boys showed good heart and kept fighting. Despite being down, the boys kept working and at times played some good soccer.

Columbia came to Farnsworth today and kept our boys on their heels most of the afternoon. Guilderland's goal came on a Quinn Tynan thru ball to Bugra Karaca. Bugra shoots, keeper rebounds and coughs it up, Bugra follows up and calmly finishes.  Boys played hard today and competed right to the end.

GAME 7
10/07/2016 @Bethlehem: Bethlehem 1 -Guilderland 3
Goals: VanWormer (1), Jambunathan (2)
Assist: Bugra (1), Cusack (1), Knapp (1)

We traveled to Bethlehem today. It was a sunny and warm fall day.  After falling flat on Wednesday the boys came ready to play! Right from the opening whistle the Dutchmen were applying pressure and creating chances. Bugra Karaca and Quinn Tynan created several opportunities. The opening goal came from Quinn attacking from the right side and finding Bugra for a shot that the Bethlehem keeper saved and Jonathan VanWormer bashed home. The midfield and defense did a great job of stepping up and winning balls. Robert Zieba did an excellent job of disrupting Bethlehem's midfield play. Jake Anderson and Noah Manzella controlled the center of defense and kept everyone organized. Alex Jambunathan provided the next two goals! Riley Cusack chased down a defender, stripped the ball and got off a shot. The keeper bobbled the shot and Alex followed up for the second Dutch goal. The Third goal came from a direct kick on the left side. Ryan Knapp played the ball in to the center of the goal mouth and Alex collected it and slotted it home.

GAME 6
10/05/2016 @FMS: Guilderland 0 - Mohonasen 3
Goals: 0
Assist: 0

It was a nice day for soccer… sunny and 70.  Guilderland looked off their game today.  Mohon scored twice off direct kicks and once on a corner.

GAME 5
09/30/2016 @Ballston Spa: BSHS 0 - Guilderland 1
Goals: Suresh (1)
Assist: 0

Today, we traveled to Ballston Spa on an overcast chilly day for the 5th game of the campaign. BS had not won a game yet and the boys were feeling confident. The boys did a much better job today of pressuring the ball and making quicker passes. They generated a bunch of scoring opportunities but just lacked the finishing touch. Kyle Wesselhoeft had an outstanding  game today. His relentless pressure caused trouble for BS all afternoon. Jake Anderson, Jeff Burleigh, and Robert Davidson did a solid job of holding down the midfield. Quicnn Tynan was strong tracking back and making the extra pass in the offensive end. Defensively, Noah Manzella and Bugra Karaca (#20) had strong performances coming up with several key stops as well as good passing out of the back. Suhon Suresh provided the lone goal of the game. Suhon gathered a long defensive clear and broke down the left side. Beating one defender and riding off another, Suhon showed great strength and composure while slotting home the goal. Samuel Matkin and Cameron Frey combined for the sut out. I would like to list every boy's name! They all continue to make great contributions and show improvement. Also would like to acknowledge Coach Banovic, managing 20 players and getting them all playing time is an impossible task and he is making it look easy. Thanks to Coach's family for coming out and supporting our boys today!

GAME 4
09/28/2016 @Saratoga: Saratoga 5 - Guilderland 1
Goals: Schulz (1)
Assist: Qu (1)

We traveled to Saratoga today. It was a cool and overcast day.  Saratoga was the better team on the day. Guilderland continues to make improvements. Saratoga was very quick to capitalize off of our mistakes and mental lapses. Guilderland's goal today came from a long distance effort from Peter Schultz in the third quarter. Pete took a throw in up in the offensive third and found George Qu in the corner. George passed the ball back to Pete and he launched a shot that floated over the Saratoga keeper's head.

GAME 3
09/23/2016 @FMS: Guilderland 0 - Niskayuna 3
Goals: 0
Assist: 0

Fall has arrived! Niskayuna came to town ready to play. The first quarter, Niskayuna applied steady pressure and kept the ball in the Guilderland half. Our defense kept their shape and did a great job of clearing the ball. Niskayuna had several shots but most were long distance efforts. Guilderland had a few counter attacks but for the most part were slow to pressure the ball and dribbled too much. The second quarter, Niskayuna took advantage of a couple of defensive lapses and ended the half up 2-0. Into the third quarter and Niskayuna capitalized again for a 3-0 lead. The fourth quarter was bright for the Dutchmen. They kept working and didn't quit. There was better defensive pressure on the ball and quicker passing. Quinn Tynan played Jeff Burleigh over the top and Jeff's shot came off the crossbar. Alex Jambunathan was crashing the goal but just couldn't corral the awkward bounce. Quinn Tynan also had another come off the crossbar and the keeper saved another. Strong finish by the Dutchmen. This goes in the books as a 3-0 loss but the boys continue to show steady improvement.

GAME 2
09/22/2016 @Troy: Troy 0 - Guilderland 3
Goals: Suresh (1), Cusack (1), Francis (1)
Assist: Qu (1), Burleigh (1), Suresh (1)

We traveled to Troy for our second game of the year. The boys came out fast and created several chances inthe opening minutes. Quinn Tynan played Kyle Wesselhoeft through behind the back line, but we could not find the finishing touch. It will come! George Qu set up the first goal, picking out Suhan Suresh, who attacked left to right and found the back of the net from the top of the 18 yd. box. The boys didn't let up! They pressured the ball all over the field, used the width and made early passes. Alex Jumbunathon created a turnover in the offensive third and found Jake Anderson. Jake dribbled into the box and found Jeff Burleigh at the top of the 18 for a near miss, but a beautiful piece of soccer. Aaron Cano pick the ball up at midfield and combined with Jonathon VanWormer down the right wing resulting in Aaron playing a lovely ball far post that Logan Altieri narrowly missed turning in. Again, GREAT soccer! The second goal came from a corner. Jeff Burleigh drove the ball across the six yard box and Riley Cusack headed it home! The third goal was great work by Suhan Suresh tracking back and winning the ball. Suhan then drives done the right side of the box playing a well weighted pass to Shoun Francis for the final goal.

We were quicker to the ball today and pressured Troy higher up the field. Justin Petti was tenacious and won several balls, resetting the offense and starting the attack. Noah Manzella was dependable and kept the back organized. Cameron Frey and Sam Matkin split the goal tending duties and preserved the shutout. Today was a good team effort!

GAME 1

09/16/2016 @GHS: Guilderland 1 - Averill Park 5
Goals: Burleigh (1)
Assist: Anderson (1)

Our first game of the season brought Averill Park to FMS on a beautiful sun filled afternoon.  Averill Park started the game with several opportunities but the defense held strong and turned them back.  Peter Schultz and Noah Manzella did a solid job of holding down the center of the park. Guilderland got on the board first when Jake Anderson was able to pick out Jeff Burleigh coming across the top of the 18. Burleigh struck low and hard scoring the first goal of this young season. Unfortunately, the scoring account was closed for the Dutchmen for the rest of the day. Averill Park took advantage of several set pieces to walk away with the win today.  There were several bright spots on the day. The boys created several goal scoring chances that just didn’t go in. Quinn Tynan dribbled through a half dozen AP players and finished with a well-placed shot only to be denied by a fantastic keeper effort.  That’s how the game goes sometimes. The boys played hard till the end. Today was just not their day.
